Industry: SYMCA EV Charging Scheme (South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority)
Location: Multi-sites – Indoor & Outdoor across Doncaster, Barnsley, Rotherham, and Sheffield
Project Duration: October 2022 – September 2023 across all sites

Challenges
Initial Challenges:
The client faced significant hurdles in meeting demanding deadlines and ensuring quality workmanship. Initially, multiple contractors were employed, but issues with quality led to P&D being the only installer used.
P&D’s Solution
Assessment and Planning:
P&D conducted a comprehensive assessment of the client’s needs and assisted in the design phase, ensuring a quick turnaround. This included detailed consultation processes, site surveys, and customised solutions tailored to meet specific project requirements.
Implementation:
- Equipment Design and Procurement: P&D sourced equipment adhering to stringent specifications and regulations. For instance, O-Pen devices were used to detect load imbalances, including open PEN (protective earthed neutral) on three-phase PME infrastructure. These devices safely isolated the incoming electrical supply where TT-Earthing systems were unsuitable.
- Civic Quarter Multi-Storey Car Park in Doncaster: P&D utilised appropriate containment solutions such as lidded cable trays and Unistrut™.
- Electrical Solutions: P&D worked with both single-phase (230V) and three-phase (400V) systems, using Private and DNO connections as power sources.
- Project Management and Support: P&D appointed a dedicated Project Manager, qualified electricians, and civil engineers for each site, ensuring high standards of quality and safety as a NICEIC Contractor.
